Feng Shui - Bring Health, Wealth and Happiness Into Your Life

Working with the 5 Elements of Feng Shui

The 5 elements of feng shui are the materials that form the world – they are wood, fire, earth, metal and water. According to feng shui, these five elements influence different people in different ways, and they have a profound influence on our lives and flow of energy. The goal is to keep the elements in balance, both within the space and in relation to ourselves.

How can the elements affect us? We are of the earth, and the elements make up the earth – therefore, they affect everybody and everything. However, how we, specifically, are affected depends on birth. In feng shui, this and everything else is determined by your KUA number, which is derived from your lunar birth date and your gender. People with different KUA numbers are associated with different elements, and certain elements may even be harmful to them. For feng shui experts, this is a valuable way of showing how we interact with the environment.

No matter what our KUA number and affiliation is, however, it is also necessary for the elements to be in balance in order to have a harmonious home. Therefore, if an element is found to be missing, it can be added, and if one is too strong, another is added in order to counteract it. In this way, by using simple yet valuable objects, a feng shui practitioner can help you to totally overhaul the quality of energy in your home using the elements.

Finally, the elements can be incorporated into feng shui decorating, both with regard to introducing the elements themselves and choosing colors and shapes that are conducive to them or associated with them. However, if a certain element is too strong for the user of the space, color can be used to counteract its potency and bring the space into better balance and harmony. And it is this balance, after all, which is the broadest objective of feng shui practice.
