Feng Shui - Bring Health, Wealth and Happiness Into Your Life

Understanding the Chinese Horoscope

The Chinese horoscope is a way of understanding the influences that govern the energy during a particular year, and the people born during that year. There are twelve Chinese zodiac signs in all, and the sign changes yearly, at the time of the lunar new year.

All of the Chinese zodiac signs are animals: some examples are the Rooster, the Monkey, the Rat, the Horse, and the Dragon. A year that is ruled by the Rooster sign, for example, is the Year of the Rooster or Cock. A Year of the Rooster comes along every twelve years, as the twelve signs rotate. A person born during that year may be referred to as “a Rooster”, and is said to have certain characteristics that all Roosters share. For example, a Rooster is somewhat strong willed, but generally good natured. A Rooster has several good ‘matches’ in the zodiac, one of which is the Dragon – together, the Rooster and Dragon will find happiness and prosperity.

To understand the horoscope, there are several great books available  - some of which are aimed specifically at westerners, helping them to make sense of the system. For instance, there are several areas in which the Chinese horoscope is thought to affect your life, and a good book will outline many if not all of them. Your relationships, friends, personal characteristics and work compatibility are all governed by the horoscope. Furthermore, forecasts of the coming year are often made based on the horoscope. Though most zodiac books and resources avoid making detailed personal predictions, the zodiac sign for a particular year can allow experts to generalize the way the year is going to go, and what this will mean for individuals born under the various other zodiac signs. Because of the interaction of the signs, different years are auspicious for different people.
