Learning the Art of Face Reading

Knowing that feng shui emphasizes physical shapes and forms, and their influence on the various energies that govern human life, it should come as no surprise that faces can be assessed and analyzed according to the same general principles. The art of face reading takes into account the shape of the face, the eyes and the hair framing it and draws conclusions regarding the energy balance in that face. Sometimes, if there is an imbalance, measures can be taken to remedy it.

The rule of thumb is always harmony. Thus, if you have a round face, your hairstyle should not be rounded too; this creates an excess of one type of element. All of the five elements have shape associations, even when they are part of a human face. According to this way of thinking, for example, a rectangular shaped face is the wood element, while a rounded face or hairstyle is metal. Metal on wood is destructive rather than constructive, so a rounded hairstyle on a person with a rectangular face should likewise be avoided, as it causes disharmony. On the other hand, long wavy hair is suggestive of the element water, and water on wood is auspicious, being part of the constructive cycle of elements. Therefore, a long wavy hairstyle is a good choice for someone with a square face.

This is yet another example of the inclusive nature of feng shui. Through their shapes, faces are associated with what is universal, and a part of everything – the elements and energies. At the same time, feng shui gives us something practical and positive to do in order to balance these energies. As is the case in one’s home, office or living space, the adjustments that are made due to feng shui principles also lead us to the creation of a balance that is aesthetically pleasing, as well. Apart from being good feng shui, in other words, a long wavy hairstyle on a person with a square face also simply looks good.
