Feng Shui - Bring Health, Wealth and Happiness Into Your Life

Learning Feng Shui Basics

Because feng shui has become popular in North America, where many people have a limited idea of what it is really all about, we hear some confusing and contradictory things regarding this ancient art or science. This is very different from the experience of those living in China – for most people there, feng shui has been a natural way of thinking for longer than they can remember. It is firmly entrenched in their culture. This is not the case with us, so we need to take the time to learn the feng shui basics if we are going to use elements of the practice in our own lives.

The basic idea behind all feng shui is that the way in which we arrange our architecture, color, furniture, and the decorative elements in our homes can affect the energy flow in the space. This, in turn, affects us. We cannot be as productive as we might otherwise be if our space is not balanced, for example. We might also find that our relationships could stand some improvement, and that this can best be done according to the principles of feng shui.

To practice simple feng shui, you can divide your home into eight parts according to the bagua – this is available in many reference books and web sites. Then, take a look at the different areas and think about what they signify. There might be some areas you wish to work on – and feng shui tells you how. Rather than tackling your money problems directly, feng shui tells us, try improving the flow of energy to your money or prosperity corner. Try, furthermore, attracting energy by using some Chinese coins tied with a red ribbon – a good ‘prosperity’ color.

Even if you do nothing else, you can follow some basic principles of feng shui. First of all, get rid of the clutter. A cluttered space does not allow energy to flow – it blocks it. Second, get rid of or minimize sharp edges, as this also affects the flow of energy. Too many corners or edges definitely cut the chi or life energy in the room.
