Feng Shui - Bring Health, Wealth and Happiness Into Your Life

Feng Shui Books - Wading Through a Wealth of Sources

There are numerous feng shui books on the market today – just check your local bookstore or library. Even in the United States, some bookstores have a separate section entirely devoted to books about feng shui! In other cases, the books about feng shui are with other books on the east, or architecture and design, or spiritual practices. Wherever you find them, though, you may be sure that there are plenty of such books available.

This brings us to the question of how to select a book about feng shui that will both interest you and inform you. First of all, take a quick look at the entire section of books on feng shui. How thick or thin are they? Are they brightly illustrated with color photographs, or do they look like heavier, theoretical works? In either case, you have to choose what appeals to you. What is your objective in wanting to learn about feng shui? If it is just to help you decorate your home, you will do fine with one of the many practical manuals dealing with feng shui decorating techniques, tips, and cures. There are many of these available – flip through them, and pay attention to the author’s credentials. He or she should have had experience as a feng shui expert; preferably, feng shui practice is the author’s full time career.

Though these decorating books seem to be heavy on the practical, DIY approach and low on theory, this is not necessarily the case. By actually ‘doing’ feng shui – figuring our first hand how the theory works – you are learning a lot, even if it doesn’t feel like it.

To learn more, try reading a traditional text from ancient China, such as the I Ching or the Chinese almanac. These books might seem a little dry, but they will give you a solid historical and theoretical perspective. This will give you one distinct advantage over other readers about feng shui – you will be able to distinguish between information that has been fabricated for North American audiences, and information that is truly an authentic part of the practice.
