Feng Shui - Bring Health, Wealth and Happiness Into Your Life

Correct Use of a Feng Shui Candle

The use of candles in feng shui is to bring fire energy into a space that requires it. In order to use the feng shui candle correctly, therefore, we have to understand the interaction of the five elements that is such a central component of feng shui theory and practice.

According to feng shui, the five elements are as follows: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood. These five interact with each other and with us. For one thing, different elements are associated with different people based on the time that they were born and by their gender. You might have a lot of one element and be lacking another, for example. Furthermore, the elements react with each other n either a ‘productive’ or a ‘destructive’ cycle. In a productive cycle, one element creates another – wood created fire, and so on. In the destructive cycle, the opposite happens – wood destroys earth which destroys water, and so on. Both types of interaction are simultaneously true, all the time. For this reason, it is important to have a balance between elements, so that no one element every ‘takes over’ in the absence of another. If this happens, however, and element can be added to the space in order to re-establish the balance. This can be done by adding something that symbolizes a certain element that is missing.

A candle, of course, symbolized fire. If the element of fire is ‘missing’ from your birth chart (based on astrology and the KUA number), this can be remedied by adding candles. Furthermore, if something is missing from a particular area in your physical space, this can also be remedied by adding candles to that particular part of the space. Of course, before adding a candle, you have to make sure that the area (or your own chart or lifepath) does not already have an excess of fire.
