Effective Feng Shui for the Classroom

We know that feng shui can have a powerful positive effect on any interior space, by balancing and clearing the energy for maximum effectiveness. This can make all of us more energized, effective, and inspired – so it should come as no surprise that feng shui in the classroom is also a natural. In fact, classroom layout is often a major problem, contributing to students’ distractibility and lack of focus. This is because the energy in the classroom may be misaligned and therefore distracting. Feng shui can be used quickly and easily to remedy this.

For example, it is helpful for a teacher’s desk to be between the students and the door of the classroom. This prevents the children’s attention from escaping, and puts the teacher in his or her proper place – as an intermediary between the children and the influences of the exterior world. Moreover, natural light, mirrors, lack of clutter, and plants have easy and effective applications in the classroom, as they do in other interior spaces. Another useful addition may be crystal hung or placed in the northerly direction, which is very auspicious for learning.

Sharp angles must also be watched in the classroom – they act as knives and cut the energy. Most pupils’ desks have rounded edges, which is good, but the shelves are also a concern – the edges of a shelf are very inauspicious as they are excessively sharp. This is always the problem with open shelves or bookcases. A cure can be implemented to neutralize these sharp edges and prevent the energy in the classroom from being cut.

Keeping the attention of the children, and getting them to keep their focus and energy centered on learning, is always a challenge in any classroom. These easy feng shui techniques can be applied to any classroom – the children need not even know what is happening, but they will benefit from the improved energy in the room nonetheless.
