Feng Shui - Bring Health, Wealth and Happiness Into Your Life

Feng Shui Decorating

If you have decided to learn a bit about Feng Shui and use it to clear the energy in your home and your life, take a close look at the decorations in your home – are they good Feng Shui decorating?

According to the principles of Feng Shui, energy or ‘chi’, flows easily around rounded edges but is cut or stagnates around sharp angles and edges. This is something you need to pay attention to in your decorating. Believe it or not, there are some forms of home decoration or ornamentation that are actually counter-productive or dangerous in terms of Feng Shui. A classic example involves ornamental swords, hung above a mantle or in a living space to create an impressive display. These are quite popular among people of certain ethnic backgrounds – among the Spanish, for example. Often, the swords are highly ornamental and may be representative of  the owner’s family, bearing a family crest or similar symbol.

Though they may be quite beautiful, these swords are disastrous decorating in terms of the principles of Feng Shui. They are essentially cutting implements, and will cut the energy in that corner even more drastically than a sharp-edged piece of furniture would do.

When decorating according to the principles of Feng Shui, many practitioners feel that mirrors should also be used with caution. If hung incorrectly, mirrors, as reflecting devices, might also cause the energy around them to stagnate. On the other hand, wastebaskets or bookshelves that are incorrectly placed might act as energy sponges, literally ‘eating up’ the energy in that part of the room (and the corresponding part of your life!) and reducing its flow.

On the other hand, there are some elements of decorating that can be used liberally according to the principles of Feng Shui. These include round objects and gold objects – both are considered lucky, and they attract energy to any space in which they are put. Try incorporating these in whatever space represents a part of your life you wish to improve or experience more fully.
